Hi, I'm Kum Weng

Growing up in Southeast Asia, coffee wasn’t just a delicate pour-over ritual. It was kopi, a strong, full-bodied tradition woven into everyday life.

Indonesia, despite producing some of the world’s most distinctive coffees, is often overlooked or reduced to a single flavor stereotype because much of the global specialty scene is focused on Latin American and African coffees.

I lived in the United States until 2009, and those years shaped me creatively and gave me the courage and knowledge to start my fashion brand, Simplecivet. I wanted to gift back something to the United States, so I labored to bring Southeast Asian coffee traditions into the modern specialty buzz of the USA.

We focus on Indonesian coffees shaped by the region’s unique wet-hulled processing that creates coffees with a heavy body, earthy sweetness, and low acidity. I recommend our Equilibrium Espresso if you enjoy pulling a shot from your own home.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. My healing journey wasn’t straightforward, but my therapist encouraged me to practice mindfulness. I also became more intentional about what I consumed physically and mentally.

In my healing, I was led toward naturopathic thinking and traditions I grew up with. Ingredients like Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, and Reishi have long been part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, valued for generations as part of a broader philosophy of balance and harmony.

Coffee, also began to take on a different role, less as a stimulant, but more as a grounding ritual. A moment to slow down. Something warm and familiar to start my day with.

Our Reishi Dark Kopi pairs full-bodied single origin Sumatra coffee with mushrooms and unites Southeast Asia’s coffee heritage with ingredients rooted in longstanding traditions.

The result is a cup that is both delicious yet comforting, designed to fit naturally into a mindful daily ritual. I hope you'll join me in my continual healing ritual.
